Catherine Ford was born Bloomsbury in London. Because her father's departure, the Ford family was taken care of by her mother, grandmother, and godparents. As a young child, Ford battled anxious disorders, obsessive/compulsive and was afflicted by word associations. Ford's interest in acting began in her early years. She was a part of in the National Youth Theatre. She gained admission to the Sylvia Young Theatre School, but decided after a week that she would not be a good choice for this school. Ford decided to apply to Central School of Speech and Drama and securing a place after her third try she applied for and was awarded a place at Central School of Speech and Drama. Shaun Dingwall was one of Ford's classmates. He went on to get frequent roles on the show as Pete Tyler and Doctor Who. Ford received her degree in 1993. But, before then, Ford made a television debut when she appeared as a character in Surgical Spirit in an episode in 1991. Ford took the professional title of Catherine Tate. Tate was featured in such television shows like The Bill, Men Behaving Badly as well as London Burning. Tate was a regular performer on stage, and joined the Royal Shakespeare Company's season 2000-2001. Tate gained recognition for her comedy stand-up, which became part of her resume in the year 1996.
